Nooraini was born on 20th August 1954 in Johor Bahru, Johor.  The eldest of 6 siblings, she received her primary and secondary education in Singapore, Penang, Kuala Lumpur and Johor Bahru.  She is married and has 2 sons.  Nooraini’s tertiary education began with a Diploma in Town and Country Planning, Institut Teknologi MARA (ITM), Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia, June 1976; a Diploma in Planning from Gloucestershire College of Higher Education, Cheltenham, England, United Kingdom, August 1980; an M.Sc Urban and Regional Planning from Florida State University, Tallahassee, Florida, United States of America , May 1985; and a Ph. D in Urban and Regional Science from Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas, United States of America in 1993.  She has been an academic staff of the Department of Urban and Regional Planning, Faculty of Built Environment, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) since 1st of October 1981 when she was appointed as an Assistant Lecturer ‘A’.  She was appointed as Lecturer on 30th May 1985 and an Associate Professor on 18th August 1997, a position she has held until her retirement on 19th August 2014. Nooraini has, since 20th August 2014, been appointed a Contract Lecturer with the position as an Associate Professor at the Department of Urban and Regional Planning, Faculty of Built Environment, UTM.  Her 35 years in academia, also saw her involvement in numerous committees either at Departmental, Faculty, University and National level.  Her areas of interest are Urban Planning, Housing, and the Elderly.
